Peektures

I've recently been suffering from a bit of a writers block, and what I have been writing are pieces that I don't feel like sharing with the whole world. I have, however, been exploring the visual possibilities with my new Flip Camera and Fujifilm. Please enjoy a few of my most recent pictures (no videos today, sorry kids.):

Black Swan and other randomness.....

So many levels to this bad boy. One could, of course, argue that the primary goal of the film was to illustrate the pain behind ballet in an exaggerated and haunting way. However there were so many levels, the most prevalent and evasively effective in my opinion was the whole concept of “reflection”. Black Swan touched on this theme both visually and conceptually. A portion of the film was viewed through reflections, when Nina (Natalie Portman) danced the audience often viewed her via a reflection in a mirror or window, while the camera was focused on the ballet director, Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) as he watched Nina. Then of course were the reflections interwoven into the story; first, Nina’s life was reflective of the ballet Swan Lake, a component foreshadowed within the first 20 minutes of the film -beginning with her dream that opens the film and Thomas Leroy’s very clear synopsis of the ballet. The rest of the film is guided by Nina’s subconscious and conscious fears reflected and exaggerated by her surroundings and the people that dictate her life. You often see Nina's fears reflected by the actions of her peers. I don't want to say too much because to spoil this plot would be very wrong.

I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if Portman or Cassel earned some serious recognition from the academy on this one.

I'm gonna end this with a cute picture of a puppy that I took:

Teaser

I just saw Black Swan and really enjoyed it! I'll post a full-fledged review in the next few days or so, until then, enjoy this poem:

Toolbox of Nothing

Society expects us to balance

They want us to humbly walk the line between self-loathing and self-righteousness

Society is giving us signs, pointing us in directions and muddling the ideas that compromise our minds

For years I followed strict moral codes, believing in my gut and following my faith

For years I followed in the footsteps of civilization

Never question, rarely realizing, hardly living

I don’t know what you would call me now

Sometimes I still wake up groggy and out of breath

Trapped by blankets, haunted by my dreams, annoyed with reality

I’m fed up with my lab grown expectations

And my myth defined definitions

Sometimes I wish I could just build a new world from scratch

But I can’t

I lost my hammer, and am out of nails

My tool box is empty

And whose fault is that?

DOS.

Hey Kids,

There's a few things to cover today!

1st: Olivia Wilde at the premiere of Tron:

Dynamite!

2nd: My new camera! I have named her Penelope! Penelope is a Fujifilm FinePix S1800 and she's awesome! Admittedly I haven't exactly figured out how to take GREAT photographs yet, but I'm working on it.

The Limbo Tango

Home has welcomed me back with a torrential down pour,

My alternate reality infused with out-dating memories, old friends stitched with awkward silences

Comfort and unfamiliarity are linked together here

Exploration and history meet at the head, daring one to surpass the other

At a standstill I scramble around reality, trying to choose a side

Infusing my life with culture; seeing plays, participating in discussions, reaching out to old friends, while keeping the new ones close by

I’m in an awkward kind of limbo, content with now, calm about the near future, grateful for the past few months

Just a little...

How about a little bit of poetry to get Winter Break started off with a bang. It's not an original work of Maddie, it's even better. I've been really enjoying writing by the Persian poet Hafiz, here are some of my favorites:

The Subject Tonight is Love

The subject tonight is Love

And for tomorrow night as well,

As a matter of fact

I know of no better topic

For us to discuss

Until we all

Die!

At This Party

I don't want to be the only one here

Telling all the secrets -

Filling up all the bowls at this party,

Taking all the laughs.

I would like you

To start putting things on the table

That can also feed the soul

The way I do.

That way

We can invite

A hell of a lot more

Friends.

A Great Need

Out

Of a great need

We are all holding hands

And climbing.

Not loving is a letting go.

Listen,

The terrain around here

Is

Far too

Dangerous

For

That.

And my favorite:

You're welcome.

Hey Kids,

So my dad was kind enough to send me an online article listing 35 movies coming out this holiday season, after a bit of examination, here's what I think is worth that $9.50:

The Tourist
Starring: Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie
Directed by: Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
Release Date: December 10th
I gotta be honest with you, I'm slightly skeptical about this one. I've recently been finding myself irritated with Angelina Jolie, her big lips, and her cookie cutter action hero/secret agent/spy roles, but I am a big supporter of the fact that Johnny Depp can rarely do wrong. I'm also usually down for action/adventure movies set in European countries just because they are so aesthetically pleasing. So if you're looking for a fun action spy movie with some SERIOUS eye candy (for both boys and girls) you could give The Tourist a shot.

Black Swan
Starring: Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis
Directed by: Darren Aronofsky
Release Date: December 10th
This is a film I want...no, NEED to see. Why you may ask, well I'm gonna have to drop the big name card on this one...Natalie Portman is awesome (that's a given), Mila Kunis is awesome(another given) and Darren Aronofsky is INCREDIBLE. For those of you who are recognizing the name and kicking yourself because you can't place it, stop kicking yourself, he directed The Wrestler and Requiem for a Dream. This guy has CRAZY mind, have you seen Requiem for a Dream? Amazing, an editing masterpiece with a story that will literally leaving you sick with emotion. I'll admit, I have not yet seen The Wrestler, but any movie that generates that much Oscar buzz is worth watching (one of my personal rules to live by). Speaking of Oscar buzz, Black Swan is swooping up truckloads of it, and why wouldn't it? Natalie Portman has already been nominated once. If my big name drop, or personal rule have not convinced you yet, let me throw some other words and phrases out into the mix:
Ballerinas, dark mysterious injuries, girl-on-girl action? I'm not describing this right...here's a trailer:

All Good Things
Starring: Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst
Directed By: Andrew Jarecki
Release Date: December 17th
Let me begin by saying, Ryan Gosling= YUM. In all seriousness, I'm really looking forward to this movie. I've been following it for awhile now and I think it has real potential. Andrew Jarecki is a somewhat new director so there's not a lot of his work to compare this too so it's hard to get a great read on this, but regardless...I think it will be good. "Why do you think that?" you may be asking...well, let me tell ya; I am a Ryan Gosling fan, he has a charming goofball style to his acting which is fun to watch, and I think he could do good things in a role like this (I'll include a trailer so you can see what I mean) and I really liked the trailer, I know, I know that probably sounds stupid but a lot of times the quality of a trailer can end up predicting the quality of a film. Example: Funny People, horrible trailer, horrible movie.
Warning: This looks like it might have a bit of a slower pace to it, so if you're into the faster pace kind of shtuff, I'd wait till it comes on dvd.

The Fighter
Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams
Directed By: David O. Russell
While I don't see the appeal of Christian Bale (sorry ladies) I do see the appeal of this movie. Let me just lay this down for you cut and dry, we all know Mark Wahlberg has some serious potential (as was demonstrated in The Departed). He is just one of those actors who throws themselves into parts, Christian Bale is another one of those (I mean come on, did you see him in The Machinist?). Further proof of commitment in this film, all the fight scenes are real. Marky Mark actually got up there in the ring with all those opponents and fought them for the filming of this movie. I mean the outcome of the fights were controlled but the punches were real. Talk about authenticity.

I Love You Philip Morris
Starring: Jim Carrey and Ewen McGregor
Directed By: Glenn Ficarra and John Requa
Release Date: December 17th
All I really have to say here is Jim Carrey and Ewen McGregor playing a gay couple. I mean, it's worth a shot right?

True Grit
Starring: Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin
Directed By: Ethan and Joel Coen
Release Date: December 22th
Ok, sorry, I'm going to do it again...I absolutely HAVE to do the name dropping thing on this one. Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Jeff Bridges all in a remake of a classic being directed by the Coen Brothers?!? If you don't see all the beauty and potential enjoyment in that you need to seriously reexamine your life choices.
AND the girl ALMOST has the same name as me, and if that isn't enough....

And last but not least...
this list's Oscar front runner...

The King's Speech
Starring: Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter
Directed By: Tom Hooper
Release Date: Christmas!
I can't even explain, I just have to show you the trailer:

p.s. did you notice wormtail in that one?

An ode to winter break....

The natives are restless.
I’ve been confined to the cell for too long,
Drinking nothing but tepid tap water and snacking on stale potatoes chips.
My fair skin has grown paler
Dark circles have made their way underneath my eyes
And my fingers and toes twitch with the anticipation of adventure.

The Little Things

There’s a sweetness in the world
Hand in hand, fingers curled
Fingers strummed along guitar strings
The melodies intertwined with rusty swings
Long days, and shorter nights
A gentle breeze that flies kites,

I can see the happiness in your eyes
No remnants of a disguise,

Pure of heart, sweet with soul
Diamonds that require no coal
Good things, extracted from bad
Days upon days when you’re never sad,

Sometimes it's hard to appreciate the little things
Like warm grass and summer flings
I can always count on you for a smile
It’s a charge that can keep me going for miles,

It’s nice to appreciate the little things
When you’re having trouble finding your wings.

Bottles

I want to write now,
Let the ink flow from my pen and the words from my fingertips
I want to collect the sunsets and falling leaves,
I want to remember this moment with creativity and vivacity
So I can always hear the tone of your laugh and feel the warmth in your embrace
I want words to guide me down memory lane
And keep me sane down main street
If I could bottle the touch of the wind and your rosy cheeks I would
If I could capture the connection I would,
If I could entrust this all to a memory, I would
But I can’t.

Over, Under, Away

Too much thought
Dark ideas mixed with cigarettes
Ideas bounce around my stomach like indigestion
Bundle up-
Warmer pajamas
Sweatshirts
Extra blankets
Even the excessive warmth isn’t enough to subdue me
I’m over thinking this
I’m over working this
I’m over analyzing this
I’d do anything to get over this
I need clarity like I need a tall drink of water
I’m overwhelmed
I’m overloading
I’m overheated
Like a computer
But I can’t crash
I just hover over implosion
Maybe I should get out and do something
Walk in the cold
Cut my hair
Make art
Itunes is putting me on edge
I'm too warm for tea
Over this
Under this
Next to this
It doesn’t matter, I just need to get away from the unhealthy this.

INFORMATION FOR YOU.

Herro,

Sorry for the delay! I've been busy with school work and various projects. I'm not fully back up in running the blogging sense, this entry is more about letting the people (you guys) know about some pretty cool shiz coming up! Shiz that I'm involved in.

#1
All of you CWUers should join me on the Thursday, October 28th down at D&M Coffee for their Open Mic night! I WILL be preforming and it WILL be awesome!

#2
I am putting on my own Open Mic Night for my COM 202 class. This is a display of students utilizing their First Amendment rights! It's Called 'Got Beef?' and anyone can get up on that Mic and just talk about what pisses them off about central. It should be really cool, informative, and possibly a good stress reliever? I'll work on uploading one of the flyers later but for now here is all you need to know:
It's tentatively (we're still waiting to hear back from the reservation people) on Wednesday, November 3rd (same day as my dad's bday!) at 7pm in the SURC Pit! If you want to preform you can basically just show up and get on up there!

Alrgithy then!

P.S. If that informative entry didn't have the pzazz/artsy edge you were looking for, here's a poem I just wrote. Be kind it's only 30 minutes old.

Broken Board Games

I love the feeling of a fresh razor on prickly skin,
How the hair just glides off,
Just like you just glided away, that way, in the opposite direction
What the fuck, man
Leaving me here, alone as the bitter spinster
The girl on the outs, ego in the gutter, right?
Wrong.
While you might think your hand is higher,
I hold the marionette strings
I control the situation
That’s right you should walk with trepidation
Every step you take towards me, every word you throw at me
I’m ready
To block the step and catch the word
Because the playing cards are bent, the dice are loaded and the monopoly went bankrupt
The games over

Hola!

On friday I developed my first camera! I got 25 pictures.

Here were the issues:
-I'm pretty sure I took 28 pictures.
-One picture was too dark.
-a majority were washed out.

The good news:
-I was able to semi-save a portion of the washed out pictures.
-The ones taken outside had fantastic lighting and turned out better than I hoped!
-I'm on my way to discovering how to properly use these disposable cameras!

I'm pretty sure that I should straight up not use flash outside, try to avoid taking pictures when there is just bad light, use the flash inside with dim lighting, and lastly I shouldn't use the flash when the room is full of good natural light.

I got a little trigger happy over the weekend so I have a second camera just waiting to be developed, and a third camera waiting to be used...but I'm going to be using this last one more sparingly because I refuse to buy another one this month.

Here are a few examples of my outcomes:

One I was able to save:

One that was past saving:

And a few that turned out just as I had hoped:

Hopefully I'll have the next one developed within the next few days.
Comment if you would like the link to my flickr to see the rest!

Disposable and Awesome

Hello Blogging World!

"What's on your desk right now?" is a question you may be asking yourself.
Lemme tell ya:

-A mug of cold coffee
-Blank note cards
-Note card holder
-A Lotus Clothing & Jewelry Design bumper sticker
-A roll of masking tape
-My fish Confucius
-A cup full of pens
-A framed picture of me and some amigos at Half Moon Bay
-My Alarmclock/ipod speakers
-Some dumb paperwork
-My Cell Phone
and last but CERTAINLY not least....
- MY DISPOSABLE CAMERA

Many of you are surely wondering why have a disposable camera, and for those of you who are wondering about something else, sorry but you're out of luck because I have no intention of explain anything else besides my camera.

ANYWHO, sometime between summer and last April I miss placed my digital camera (oops) so I have no camera which is sad. Recently, however, I was reminded of the joy disposable cameras brought me, and I also decided I really liked the film quality! So I made a life changing (okay not life changing) decision to document this year with disposable cameras! I will use one a month, and use them sparingly! Although, I'm going to go click crazy with this first one because I get to get another one in like two days!

If you want to see the pictures and aren't one of my facebook friends, THAT SUCKS FOR YOU.....well maybe i'll make a flicker or something...I don't know though...I'm just to excited to think rationally right now!

That's all for now!
Love you all!

2:25pm

YO, what up.

Could a place be any winder?!? Ask me that on Thursday after I visit the wind farm.

P.S Looky Loo, I know who you are *cough**cough* dad! Did you think I wouldn't recognize that blob of hair....OR THE NAME?

8:07 Am.

So Eastern WA is beautiful, and for the most part I really enjoy it....but right now, I have A MAJOR bone to pick with it.

So for the past few days it's been really nice and hot out in the afternoons/late mornings...which is awesome! HOWEVER, on days like today (tuesdays and thursdays) I have a 9am class...and this year I have started a new routine of waking up an hour and half before my first class to get all pretty and such, make some breakfast and get ready for the day (it works wonders)! And today I had to wake up an extra half an hour early so I could edit a paper....so long story short I was up at 7.
Are you ready for the issue at hand? And no, the issue is not me waking up at 7 (even though it sucks) the issue is, I don't have a break in my classes that is long enough for me to come back up to my dorm and change into suitable sunny clothing, so I have to dress for summer in the cool cool mornings! So right now its a nice and chilly 57 degrees and in 45 minutes I get to walk to class in shorts, a tshirt, and a light jacket (thank god for layering).

P.S it turns out I didn't need a full half an hour to edit my essay...

Oh you, you know....

Just reading some poetry before I head out for a night on the town;

By-the-Way

These be the little verses, rough and uncultured, which
I've written in hut and model, deep in the dirty ditch,
On the upturned hod by the palace made for the idle rich.

Out on the happy highway, or lines where the engines go,
Which fact you may hardly credit, still for your doubts 'tis so,
For I am the person who wrote them, and surely to God, I know!

Wrote them beside the hot-plate, or under the chilling skies,
Some of them true as death is, some of them merely lies,
Some of them very foolish, some of them otherwise.

Little sorrows and hopings, little and rugged rhymes,
Some of them maybe distasteful to the moral men of our times,
Some of them marked against me in the Book of the Many Crimes.

These, the Songs of a Navvy, bearing the taint of the brute,
Unasked, uncouth, unworthy out to the world I put,
Stamped with the brand of labor, the heel of a navvy's boot.

-- Patrick MacGill

I promise to post again soon, just waiting on the inspiration!

Found...Treasures?

So sometimes I get creative bursts. During those outbreaks I usually get an idea for a poem or something...last year that happened a lot, and I rarely had paper or pens on me, so I would write part of it in a note application on my phone, and would just hope to remember the rest.

Towards the tail end of the summer I decided that was unacceptable. I found a very homemade-bohemian-looking journal that was the perfect size to carry around in my purse. Unfortunately, my brilliant idea did not stick and I just recently found the journal in one of my desk drawers. I did, however, manage to write three, uh...interesting....poems in that journal.

It's too bad that I didn't keep that up throughout the year, it would have been interesting to have a journal of poem inspired by the first year of college. I'm going to try to do that this year, and as a reminder and an act of ignition, I'm going to post the three "poems" I did write in the journal.

Poem #1 "Untitled"
It's time to organize the clutter
Make calm of the havoc
Understand the rambling words
Create magic

Like that song I can never remember
Poetic phrases keep returning
I keep forgetting the silly ones
and miss-quoting the good ones.

Poem #2 "Untitled"
The rumbling in my stomach was proof
Proof that one cannot live on carrots alone
I couldn't live on carrots alone, but that doesn't excuse what followed
I inhaled the refrigerator
I took no prisoners in the war against perishables
First I went for the peanut butter, then the lunch meats
Followed by several fruits and a large selection of cheese
I ended with a cup of tea on an uncomfortably full stomach.

Poem #3 "Untitled"
I use to be able to sleep, but not anymore
My eyes are sore
It's starting to pour.

A Relationship Built For Actors

I can’t tell you what it’s like, driving on these roads again
Like I’m stuck in rewind
Recognizing the foot prints I left behind
The taste of your kiss
The agony of my miss
It’s all coming back
I can’t hold this together all alone
Your eyes give me butterflies and your hugs bring me home
Every time I try to cut the cord,
I find myself searching for a remedy that I can never seem to afford
I use to think separation was the only answer
But now hearing your voice, doesn’t there seem like a worse kind of cancer
I’d be crazy to call you my first love
But it’s hard to categorize you, when you fit in none of the above
With you it’s always a confusing concoction
Humiliation, confidence, it’s all up for auction
Crumpled up letters
Decisions that could have been made better
Again I’m confused about your category
Because this does not seem like the regular story
So what are you? A reason to fight again?
A reason to write again?
Or a reminder that in this relationship built for actors
I am the only deciding factor

I'm Backkkk

Hello World,

I know, I know, it's been a LONG while...my absence was brought to you be a royally uninspiring summer.

However, inspiration has struck IN TWO WAYS:

Way #1
FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS!!!

OMG, THEY'RE LIKE AS TOTALLY FUN TO MAKE AS THEY ARE TO WEAR!
So get a group of girl (or guy) pals together with a selection of embroidery thread (you can find a great variety pack at Michael's for like $15) and go crazy! There are plenty of different fun and easy patterns and styles on line! Google Google Google!!

Way #2
THE NEW GORILLAZ ALBUM!!!

All I have to say about it is, they have totally reinvented their sound, and it's awesome....LISTEN TO IT.

WOOORD.

Hey Kids,

I started to write this post during math today, so forgive me if it seems a little outdated.

Sorry it;s been so long, but i've been trapped in a world of dull slide shows and mind numbing equations.

I'm actually in math right now. My teacher is just sitting there...I'd assume he was dead if it wasn't for the fact that he has been smacking his gum for the last five minutes. Don't get me wrong, I love my little old man teacher, but I can't understand him half the time and I miss a lot of instructions.

Anywho, for those of you who are wondering...I got all the classes I wanted for fall quarter :) I will be taking Intro to Film and Video Studies (FVS 2Something), Ethics and the 1st Amendment (COM 202) and Energy and Society ( Environmental Studies 310). I'm super excited about all my classes and the best part is I don't have classes on fridays! Not only is this an ideal schedule, but it's also a productive one! I'll be able to declare both of my majors (Communications Studies and Film and Video Studies w/ a Specialization in Production) by the end of fall quarter!

Okay, I am just days away from finals week so I must depart and hit the books...

PEACEOUT.

Monday, May 24, 2010

It's a race against time.

Ah registration.

I have my dream schedule at my finger tips. The classes are all still open, but here's the catch, I have to wait 11 minutes for my registration appointment to begin.

AH GODS OF REGISTRATION, SAVE ME A SPOT.

I'll keep you posted.

Ahoy Bloggers!

You WERE in for a spastic blog entry containing fun little treasures I found on stumbleupon.com, details of my day and more of the other nonsense that only I can contrive, but then I decided to dedicate this whole blog entry to Neil Patrick Harris.

I wish he was my very talented gay best friend. He is such an incredible performer, if you haven't seen 'How I Met Your Mother' (and you don't mind a bit of crude humor) I suggest you hulu that s**t ASAP, because it is a dynamite (<- I'm trying to bring dynamite back as a descriptive word) display of Harris' talent.

If you've already seen 'How I Met Your Mother' or are choosing to be lazy and stubborn and not watch it, you should type 'Dream On Glee' into youtube and find the video of Neil Patrick Harris and Matthew Morrison singing Areosmiths' 'Dream On', it is fantastic, you don't have to like Glee, you just have to appreciate good music/classic rock.

If you have already seen both those things or just want something interesting and different search for 'Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog' on youtube, I haven't been able to locate all the parts on youtube yet, but if you watch a few and find yourself craving the complete set you can find them on itunes.

Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog is awesome because it was created independently by Harris and it was never shown on television or in theaters, and if you're a frequent reader of my blog you should know how I feel about indies!

PEACE.

Healthy Computer!

Hello World,

I know it's been awhile since my last post but I ask that you forgive me, because I just (and by just I mean Friday) got my laptop back from the computer hospital! Anyway, I'm sitting cross-legged on my green shag-rug, in my dorm room, a little annoyed that I've let it grow so messy, but otherwise, I am completely content. There's a lot I haven't told you, World. For instance my roommate moved out. It may sound rude or cold, or unsympathetic of me to say this, but it was not a major loss. We got along fine, and occasionally discussed plots and twists of various tv shows, but there was no serious bonds of friendship formed there, and while it's weird that I never see her anymore, I'm relishing in the extra space that her departure left me with.

What else is new? Well after months of nagging, pleading, and forceful reminders a friend of mine has finally got me to adopt a new pen pal. I was hesitant to jump on this opportunity because this said pen pal is in jail. I don't remember what he did to end up where he is, but I have faith that my friend wouldn't corner me into a questionable situation. I wrote my first letter to him today. At first it was kinda weird to write to someone I've never met and know virtually nothing about. After several awkwardly formed sentences I realized that it sounded like I was applying for a job, so I channeled the blogger within me and was surprised how easily the words flowed after that. I ended up writing him almost two pages, it was somewhat therapeutic to know that someone else will not only be reading my words, but craving them. By the time I finished addressing the envelope I found myself already anticipating his response. I don't know when he'll respond, but I assure you that I will keep you updated!

Hmmmm, I'm trying to think if there is anything else notable in my life right now....OH...I've been rereading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. Don't ask me how many times I've read the HP series because I have lost count. Why do I keep rereading the Harry Potter books? Because I still haven't lost interest. In fact I become more invested in the wizarding world and the characters each time I read the books. I feel a friendship with Harry, a kinship with Hermione and don't even get me started on Ron. I crave a connection to the wizarding world. Sometimes I wonder if I would have powers if this was a real phenomena, but then I remember that I'm awesome, so of course I would! I don't think you realize how badly I want to go to the Harry Potter theme park.

computer hospital

Today has been long. Yo estoy very tired. I would love to share with you the trials of today, but I can only do so much BECAUSE I'M BLOGGING FROM MY PHONE.

"Why is she doibg this?" you might ask "The keyboard is so small, her fingers will surely cramp up!"
You're right, it is small, they are crampping up...but I have no alternative because my computer is sick and in the computer hospital and I don't know if it will recover. :(:(

"'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see"

It's a John Mayer kind of day :)

"So young and full of running, all the way to the edge of desire
Steady my breathing, silently screaming,
"I have to have you now"
Wired and I'm tired
Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor
Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours"

Processing the Process

Processed, wrapped and packaged,
Injected with cornstarch and drained of all things real,
My words taste better when they’re organic
Over thought, preplanned and stale meanings
My words are products of endorsement deals, steroid injections and pressures introduced by the media
Of course I can’t completely rely on my own garden
Some words rot, taste bad, and have weak roots
I try to make room for my garden to grow
But cooperate America has infiltrated
The soil smells of Lysol,
The sun is blocked by skyscrapers,

Am I planting the right seeds?

The little water I have goes to swimming pools
And watering fake laws, adorned with lawn gnomes
My words, like me, are overwhelmed with today

Mail

Dear Spring Time,

Have I ever told you that you're my favorite time? There are many sensations I associate with your presence. I love your gradual appearance. I feel like fall sneaks up on you, the trees don't seem to shed their leaves gradually. With a blink of the eye the luscious vegetation of the past two seasons are replaced with skeletons of the months previous.

I love your smells; warm air, cut grass, young flowers, hose water, the mixture is intoxicating.

From October to April complexions are watered down, and drained of summer color, but as you reintroduce the warmth of the sun, complexions brighten only to accentuate smiles, that's another thing I love about you Spring Time, the sunny smiles and warm complexions.

Along with pale complexions Winter & Fall also force us into dark clothing that comes in bundles. I hate the itchiness of wool, and the stifling quality of fleece. Spring clothing is delicate, light cottons are everywhere and the colors are eye catching. Walking around in open toed shoes, shorts, sundresses and t shirts is bearable, and appreciated.

Finally I love the optimism and excitement that only you can bring. Students begin the countdown to summer, retailers reorganize their stores, ice cream parlors higher extra help, and the outdoor swimming pools prepare for business. You're like the "ready, set, almost go" of an epic summer.

Spring time, I love you and I'm glad you're here.

Literary Withdrawals

What's up Blogspot, did you miss me? With the chaos of completing Winter Quarter, enjoying spring break, and starting spring quarter, I've found it hard to find time to blog. But as I sit on my bed, cozy, on this rainy night, I feel that it's time to continue with my blogging efforts! And, I have an exciting experience to share with you!

Last weekend I braved the snow storms that plagued the pass to make it back to the west-side of Washington for a concert, not just any concert mind you, but a Muse concert. Lemme tell ya, it was SOOOOO worth it. If you aren't familiar with Muse's music stop reading this and familiarize yourself with it. Let me give you a break down of the show in the most inconvenient, unorganized way possible, a poorly made list:

1) Maddie get's picked up from her house around 5pm.
2) Maddie and friends arrive at the Seattle Center, and Maddie pays the $12 fee for parking (DEAR SEATTLE CENTER, WTF?).
3) Maddie and friends go into the Key Arena, get wrist bands (because Maddie and friends are so cool and have General Admissions tickets).
4) Maddie and friends proceed to enter the Arena and are shocked by the multitude of speakers and lights that hover above the awesome stage.
5) Maddie and friends head down to the floor and get spots ridiculously close to the stage.
6) Around 6pm Maddie and two of her friends go to the merchandise table and Maddie buys an awesome Muse T-Shirt. Maddie immediately puts it on, because you gotta represent!
7) Maddie and friends return to spots.
8) 7pm, Silver Sun Pickups (Muse's openers) start.
9) 7:30pm Maddie enjoys the Silver Sun Pickups, but begins to become restless as she starts to think about how awesome Muse will be.
10) 7:35pm Maddie get's pissed and uncomfortable as the crowd becomes rowdy
11) 7:37pm Maddie contemplates punching the obnoxious drunk guy who keeps ramming into her in his bald head.
12) 7:50pm, Silver Sun Pickups end their set, and Maddie breaks through the crowd and goes to the bathroom before Muse starts.
13) 8:15pm After waiting in a ridiculous line for the bathroom, Maddie realizes that she will not be able to relocate her friends in the massive crowd because she does not have her cell phone.
14) 8:16pm Maddie realizes she's okay with not finding her friends because she doesn't want to participate in the intense moshing that will occur when Muse starts.
15) 8:30pm After finding a good spot away from the potential mosh pit, but still close to the stage Maddie begins screaming because the lights have gone down, and graphics have appeared on the three cloth covered pillars on the stage.
16) 8:31pm A cord is played, the fabric drops, and there, one on each pillar are the band members of MUSE!!!!
17) 10:00pm After rocking out to the most visually, ascetically, and musically appealing concert ever Maddie, with a smile on her face, proceeds to find her friends.
18) Maddie and friends dine on burgers and fries and speak with raspy voices about the magic they just encountered.

Well Blogspot, I hope you enjoyed my 18 point presentation, I'll try to make my next absence shorter! I'm fairly positive it will be significantly shorter because I'm going to another concert saturday, and my readers deserve to hear about that one too!
Hopefully it will be full of more of the witty banter, because this one was rather bland, MY B.

Peace.

Antarctica

Left behind everything I knew
All the colors but bone-white and sky-blue
Hit the continent running
Engines were humming just to break through

Antarctica, my only living relative
Antarctica, I can't wait anymore

Under ice there's a world moving slow
Carnelian stars and the bars down below
Serve only vodka and gin
I try to stay drunk so nobody knows

Antarctica, my only living relative
Antarctica, I can't wait anymore
I can't wait anymore

And then there's morning
Each one feels like the first one
Ah, morning, so clean, so pure
Nothing so clear, now that I'm here

When I get back to the city
Everything's cluttered and pretty
I won't regret my return
I'll just remember the wind and the snow
And the howling so loud
That it alone drowns out the inside of me

Antarctica, my only living relative
Antarctica, I can't wait anymore
I can't wait anymore
I can't wait anymore

p.s

I have every intention of correcting the grammatical and spelling errors in my previous blog entry...later....

Well, hello!

Let me begin by saying, I know, it's been awhile since I last blogged. You can blame my lengthy abscences on the pressures of finals, and the monotonousness that has been my life for the past few weeks.

But never fear, spring break is here, and as I was driving home from school (I personally wasn't driving, I was on a bus, but that is irrelevant) I thought of some possible things to blog about and stored them in my phone, and then, just know I thought of some more, here's a list:

WAIT. TIME OUT. Looking back at that list, I think I might just have to wing it because I don't really have enough information/opinion to give you a hearty helping of my humor surrounding hand-free taking devices, or my recent re-appreciation for the arctic monkeys.

Here's something I can talk about for hours:
The undeniable bliss that comes from sunny day drives in nice cars with loud/good music. (<- Awkward sentence much?)

Today I had to go to the dentist, and for all those dentophobes out there, that can seem like a horrible task, however, I greatly enjoyed. Up until late this afternoon my dad was out of town so I got to drive his car, and let me tell ya after driving a shaky-slow-95' Maza 626 around, it was a treat. It was also incredibly sunny and goregous today, so that 20 minute drive with the radio blasting and the sun blaring was quite enjoyable.

Now you might be thinking "radio? She listens to the radio? huh, interesting, for a such a music connoisseur, I'm surprised she doesn't have an ipod..." WELL GUESS WHAT, SHE DOES.
However, little Phoebe(that's my ipod's name...as of now) is currently very sick and on her way to apple for some FREE OF CHARGE repairs, hopefully they can fix her, if they can't it will be sad but they'll send me a free Phoebe II in the mail, so it's cool. Again, you might find yourself with questions, "Why is apple being so nice to her?" you might be asking yourself, well blog follower, the answer is this; I was very smart when I purchased Phoebe, the 120 GB ipod in July, because I also purchased the $10 service plan, which enables me to get free healthcare for Phoebe! YEE!

Okay, my arm hurts from typing and i'm a sleepy puppy, so i'm gonna nap.
While I'm doing that look up the artist Rilo Kiley and listen to 'Dream World' & 'Jenny, You're Barely Alive'. While you're at it look up Phoneix and listen to 'Lisztomania' and '1901'.

PEASHHHH OUT.

#1: Eliminate teh distractions...

Hey guys, guess what?!?

It's friday, AND...wait for it....I DON'T HAVE ENGLISH TODAY! I do, however, have an paper due at 2, and I still have a fair amount to finish.

You may be wondering why I'm blogging right now instead of essaying, here my response:

I am blogging in order to spark my creativity, and get the juices flowing...

Creativity I channel you.

There is an order to my madness, before I start a difficult writing endeavor, such as the one that impatiently awaits me, I must address the possible distractions...
Before I finish my paper I must:
- Straighten my hair
- Finish my yogurt
- Do my make up
- Stretch

You might think that those things are a royal waste of time, but I disagree.
If I don't straighten my hair prior to da writing I will be distracted by frizz.
I will not be able to concentrated if the fatigue from the lack of food continues.
I will not be able to type if my arms start to cramp up.
And as for doing my make up... I just want to, okay?! I'm in College, mommy and daddy have no leverage when it comes to how I prioritize!!

Wait, I must amend my to-do list:
#1- Change this crappy music.

Adieu.

Untitled

Urban Outfitter's, today's comfort is dedicated to you.

I sit here in the student union building, with my iced late, computer, and less than par breakfast burrito (really food services, it's gross!) in a state of semi-contemplation, unable to edit my essay because my head is too warm and toasty, and my shirt fits all too well.

It is safe to say that those who know me (most of those that is) are aware of the fact that most of my clothing is from urban outfitter's (man, I've already mentioned them twice, they should pay me for this name dropping) so the fact that I am wearing two new articles of clothing from urban outfitter's right now is not out of the ordinary. What is out of the ordinary, however, is the fact that I ordered them online. I do not usually order clothing online, it freaks me out. What if it doesn't fit right? What if I think I'm ordering something lime green, and instead I get something in the horrendous color of chartreuse??? As you can see, there are many disasturous possible downfalls of online shopping. In my life time, I have made one major online clothing purchase, and that was my prom dress, but it entailed some serious alterations (and it was on sale).

ANYWAYS, back to the topic at hand....I a few days ago, I took the plunge and ordered not one, but two articles of clothing off urbanoutfitters.com. While I was pursuing (and salivating)over the website, I found the clearance section (I'm a sucker for a good clearance section) and there, displayed on the dirtiest computer screen in Washington, was and adorable little graphic t for only $4, I added it to my basket, and then the floodgates were open, I greedily clicked and viewed the next webscreen, only to find the perfect black beanie for only $5! I bought them both.

Let me tell you, my friends, I am so pleased with my purchases. I'm sitting here feeling warm, in a new website conceived outfit, and ready to make some more.

P.S I have created a game for you, my faithful reader(s), DON'T CHEAT.

Without scrolling up and looking at the blog post...
How many times did I use parenthesis in this posting?
A) Four times.
B) Six times.
C) Five times.

Scroll down for the answer.

Answer: B) Six times!

So bad it's good....

Let's talk taste.

I don't want to sound pompous, but my taste is usually pretty good. I know good music when I hear it, I can analyze and critique the crap out of a movie, and I have always had a decent sense of style.

However, recently a new "genre" (if you could call it that) has caught my attention, this "genre" being under-reaching, poorly written, poorly executed crap.
Disney Channel (yes, Disney Channel) recently premiered a made for TV movie called StarStruck, now it's no secret that Disney Channel movies have been going down hill for well over five years. High School Musical was an unexpected exception, and nothing has been good since then, and the movie StarStruck is no exception. I love it. I love the cookie cutter pop stars, poor comedic timing, and mostly, the crappy-boy band-style throwback. I cannot stop listening to the soundtrack, it's horrible, and for some reason I find it inciting and delicious.

Let me give you a little taste of the poetry that is the lyrical aspect of this scrumptious noise:
This is where I should be
There aint no other place yeah
Will my soul release please
There aint no other way
I can feel it singin movin shakin
Gotta go where the music takes me
Let it set me free
You got to believe

Ahhh, so beautiful.

Okay, moving on to another exemplary example of bad taste:

MY LIFE AS LIZ
OMG. COULD I LOVE SOMETHING MORE THAN I LOVE THIS SHOW?!?! The answer is of course, no.
Here's why this 30 minute segment of awesome get's my heart racing:
1. It's obviously scripted. Like really, I usually try and lie to myself in situations like these, just to make the show more enjoyable...but in the case I can't, there is no way in hell it is not scripted (I mean they do slow motion glamor shots for crying out loud!) and that just makes me love it more.
2. Liz, the protagonist that they follow. She is fantastic, she has awesome style, her hair is excellent (don't be surprised if I dye my hair that color hah!) And her reactions and one liners are HILARIOUS. I love you Liz, I want to be you.
3. Bryson, this is Bryson:

His words are much too wise to come out of the toolish body he poorly maintains (and dresses for that matter), and by wise, I of course mean cheesy. Bryson, I love you, but not as much as my # four reason for loving this show.
4. Liz's hair. Yes, it deserves it's own bullet point. I not only love her hair for the outstandingly fantastic color that it is, but the fact that it embodies and mirrors her personality flawlessly. AHHHH, LOVE IT.

I have now shared with you the guiltiest of my guilty pleasures.
But before you go judging me, let me assure that my style has not plummeted, dipped, or gone down hill in anyway.

In fact today I was pursuing the website of my FAVORITE clothing store Urban Outfitters (as I do at least once a week) and I found a beanie and graphic T for only $8 cumulatively, so I bought them.

And I'm getting a hair cut tomorrow, I haven't had any layers in my hair since october and it's time for some bangs!

But for now, I must sleep!

Tata,

~ Your friend with FABULOUS taste

P.S Go youtube StarStruck and watch the music video for the song StarStruck <3<3<3
